  • ACCORD assisted several community hospitals in their efforts to identify opportunities for collaboration in their shared market and to determine the most effective way to structure the relationship.
  • ACCORD is currently assisting a number of hospitals and health systems with the design and facilitation of Leadership Retreats as a part of their strategic planning processes. In these retreats, 25 to 100 key stakeholders meet over a day or two to identify critical strategic issues and to draft a longer-term vision. Board members, physician leaders, administration, and other community / business leaders engage in small and large group discussions designed to result in consensus about strategic direction.
  • ACCORD completed a multi-state, Catholic health system engagement which helped system leadership sort out which governance and management functions needed to be more centralized vs. those that required more authority at the local level, in light of the system's strategic direction.
  • As Governance Advisors to The Governance Institute in San Diego, Ed Kazemek and Pam Knecht will be conducting education programs at the Institute's Leadership Conferences to be held on May 18-21, 2008 at The Grove Park Inn Resort in Asheville, NC; September 14-17, 2008 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO. The programs will focus on the issue of "Institutional Integrity" and what boards can do to ensure they are above reproach in how they carry out their oversight responsibilities. Another program will provide a comprehensive overview for new and experienced board members on the fundamental duties and responsibilities of a board.
  • Pam Knecht will be on a panel called Hit Us with Your Best Shot for Strategic Planning Professionals at the Annual Educational Conference of the Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development of the American Hospital Association in San Francisco, CA. Her session is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2008. The other members of the panel will include Charles Francis,  Senior Vice President, Catholic Healthcare West, Christine Gallery, Vice President, Emerson Hospital, Don Seymour, President, Don Seymour & Associates.
